Essential Secrets to Increasing Your Energy

Essential Secrets to Increasing Your Energy
Jul 4, 2023
Many of us lead hectic, busy, over-scheduled lives. The idea that you can increase your energy by making a few simple changes to some behaviours or adding healthful choices and activities is quite attractive.

Recently people have felt like they lack energy, which can be for various reasons. However, talking to some of my clients, it has been a drastic change in the weather from scorching sunny days to days of endless rain.
This comes at a time when the schools are breaking up in Scotland and soon to break up elsewhere in the UK, and parents, especially those working from home, are wondering what to do to keep the kids occupied whilst they try and work.

All of this can have a detrimental effect on your energy levels therefore before worrying about anyone else you need to take care of yourself and get more energy into your life.

Here are a few examples that you can implement to revitalise yourself through making simple additions and changes to your life:

Exercise 6 days a week. Even though mentioning exercise might make you think your schedule will be more cramped and you’ll probably sap your energy doing it, facts are facts: Exercise kicks your energy up a notch. Therefore, if you sit at your desk often, get up for a couple of minutes every hour, walk about, or try some simple stretches for creaky muscles to help you relax and re-energize.   Look on YouTube for exercises you can do sitting at your desk. Maybe doing some Callisthenics for 15 minutes in your office with the door closed will work for you.

Pick up the free weights. Did you know weight-bearing exercises for the upper body can boost your energy reserves? Whether you use one-pound, two-pound, or five-pound weights, perform some upper arm exercises for about 15 minutes 3 or 4 days a week. As your muscles build, your energy will strengthen.  If you have more time, it can be a brisk 30-minute walk, bike ride, or jog. If you prefer, stop by your local health club, work out for an hour or if you have exercise equipment at home get out in the garden and make up a routine for yourself. That way you are combining the great feelings exercise bring with natural fresh air and sunlight.

Breathe. Deep breathing has so many magical qualities. Everything that’s going on in your body requires oxygen, and your breathing process brings it in. When you take several moments just to breathe, you’re subjectively stopping your world from imbibing in the sanctity of breathing. Try breathing in through your nose to the count of 4, holding it for a couple of seconds, then exhaling through your mouth. Repeat four times. Perform this breathing exercise twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. You’ll unlock new energy and feel better.

Changing the food you eat can help, I know again you will say you do not have time to cook fresh food all the time. Turn it into a family event by getting the kids to help, and the more you do this they are learning to cook properly, which can only benefit them in the years to come. Eat your vegetables. Bump up your number of vegetable servings a day to 5 to 7. Eating more fruit, and after the third or fourth day, you’ll feel the difference. Another way to save time with this is to prepare a meal, maybe put aside a Sunday morning or afternoon, plan the meals for the week, and make as much as possible, which can be kept in the fridge or freezer. This could be when the kids help and just think how much time that will save you each weekday.

Rest your mind. What if you were to stare at your flower garden for 20 minutes or watch your 3-child dig in a sandbox?   Let whatever thoughts vex you float off into the wild blue yonder and simply rest your mind.  A great way to do this is to introduce mindfulness into your day; just being able to sit, relax, breathe and let all tension go is a fantastic way to increase your energy as when you learn to do this, you decrease the energy you spend on stress and negative, thoughts. You can get examples on YouTube, and there are some great apps out there and even some podcasts which discuss this and other great topics you could introduce into your lifestyle to re-energise you.

Find your ways to rejuvenate. Does snuggling up with a book for 30 minutes fade your busy world and jump-start your energy so you can get through the day? Maybe listening to music more, putting on tunes that you know get your feet tapping, have you singing and before long, you will be dancing, doing the ironing, cooking or any other housework.

Whatever you discover brings you some quick energy, so do it. Let whatever thoughts vex you float off into the wild blue yonder and simply rest your mind. When you do, your psyche will be cleared out enough to re-load your schedule and tasks later.

Mind your stress. Stress can be one of the biggest energy drains you’ll experience. So, doing everything you can to manage your stress successfully is wise. Many of the points listed above will help with stress.  Talk with your friends when you feel stressed. Please refrain from using substances like smoking and alcohol, as they are some of the biggest energy zappers of all.

Keep your schedule under control by allowing free time between appointments and time to catch up to control the level of stress in your life. Perform self-care, physically and emotionally. How you treat yourself is intimately related to how you store energy. Positive thoughts keep you feeling safe, comfortable, and healthy. Your emotional and physical worlds share a strong connection.

You have the power to perform vital behaviours to pump up your energy. Boost your revitalising powers by putting these steps into practice or even better find your own ways. Whatever you do will bring a smile to your face and if you combine physical and mental exercises you are going to feel fitter, healthier and happier.

SO GO AND DO SOMETHING!!
